The Benefits of Fiber: It Goes Beyond Your Bowels

When I was growing up fiber was a cereal that looked like twigs and tasted like "yuck!" It was something eaten by peope who were either constipated or "old." In the last 10 years I've discovered that fiber comes in thousands of forms other than cereal. And many of them taste great! And, it does a lot more than simply relieve constipation. And now that I'm getting closer to being "old" these benefits are becoming more and more important to me. Here are just a few:

  • Helps with weight loss (thanks to The Full Plate Diet, you already know this one)
  • Reduces the risk of diabetes, heart disease and stroke
  • Fights certain cancers
  • Decreases heartburn
  • Increases energy

While I've been enjoying all of these benefits this last one is my favorite. What benefits of fiber have you been enjoying?
