Fiber-Rich Food at 30,000 ft

There are two pros to being "stuck" on an 8-hour flight overseas:

  • Your own personal TV
  • Food is still served for free (gasp!)

Airplane food has never been something to write home about...until, by mistake, I stumbled onto a great strategy. Turns out that "special" meals get served first. Which means you get to beat the crowd to the bathroom (another major plus when you're sharing numbered facilities with 400+ other travelers).

This time around, we ordered vegetarian meals before our flight for our entire traveling entourage. The two ladies traveling with us were tickled with the delicious pasta and veggies, ratatouille and fruit selection, while the rest of the cabin occupants fought over chicken or beef until their choice ran out and they were stuck with the leftovers. Each meal and snack was colorful, vibrant, and envigorating. It left such an impression, that I had to snatch my husband's phone and take the photo above, proclaiming "I'm SO writing a blog about this!" to a dismayed spouse that responded with "Hey, you're on vacation, you're not supposed to be working!"

Thanks Lufthansa airlines for the inspiration. But most importantly, thanks for the delicious grub!
