How to Survive the Expanded Holidays Without Expanding Your Waistline

It might be just a coincidence but it seems like the holidays have been expanding right along with our collective waistlines. It used to be the holidays started with Thanksgiving and ran through New Years. Now it seems they run from Halloween to Super Bowl Sunday. So, how can you survive the holidays without putting on unwanted pounds?

Eat more food. Yes, you read that right. EAT MORE FOOD! Specifically: eat more natural fiber-rich foods. Natural fiber-rich foods include: fruits, vegetables, beans, and whole grains. You already eat some of these you just need to eat more of them.

Why do I say eat more of these foods? These foods have a lot of fiber and water. Neither fiber nor water contains calories. So, when you eat natural fiber-rich foods you take in fewer calories and, of course that will help keep your waistline from expanding.

At this point I can almost hear you saying, “So, I can only eat fruits, vegetables, beans, and whole grains for the holidays? Like that’s going to happen!”

Here’s the beauty of the Full Plate Diet: There are no forbidden foods. So go ahead and eat the foods you usually celebrate with. Just be sure to begin each meal with a generous helping of natural fiber-rich foods.
