But My Kids Won’t Eat Oatmeal

Trying to remake your kitchen into a healthy zone?  Are you losing the battle to the household resistance force?  (aka kids + husband)

Here’s an oatmeal introduction strategy for kids or even grumpy husbands.

Step 1: Swapping oatmeal with their sugary, crunchy balls of cold cereal won’t win you any awards. Try starting your family off on those microwave oatmeal packets…the ones with peaches, strawberries etc. They’re super sweet.

Step 2: After 2-3 weeks, try switching to cooking stovetop oatmeal and provide some crazy fun toppings for them to load on. The options are endless. Craisins, dried fruit, coconut, peanut butter, granola, fresh fruit or even a few crunchy balls of sugar sprinkled on top.

Step 3: As the family warms up to the idea of eating oatmeal you can slowly, over 2-3 months dial back on the more sugary topping options while keeping a bench of fun and creative options. Try keeping the toppings in canisters to mimic the experience at the local frozen yogurt franchise.

What are some of the more unique toppings you’ve had on oatmeal?
