Not hungry? I’d Never Noticed . . .

"Stop eating when you no longer feel hungry.”  This part of the Full Plate Diet plan recently came to mind as I got home at the end of the day and realized that I wasn’t hungry.

I’ve made a habit of eating an evening meal for so long that I didn’t quite know what to do with this new information.  My internal dialogue went something like this:  “If I’m not hungry, I shouldn’t eat, should I?”  “But, how will I survive without the pleasure of eating an evening meal, even if I’m not hungry?”

I decided to compromise by eating two pieces of fruit, which is much less than my usual fare.  While I missed the pleasure of eating a full meal, I felt good about making a choice that helped me maintain my weight where I wanted it.  Later in the evening, when I did get a little hungry, I just thought about how much I’d enjoy breakfast the next morning.  I try to avoid eating late at night because it doesn't help my efforts to maintain a healthy weight.
