Date or no date, there’s one thing I’ve always celebrated about Valentines Day. On February 15th, tons of delicious candy goes half-price, and I get to stock up so I can survive until Halloween. This year, however, I’m not going to do that. I know I’ll eat any candy I bring home, and I’ve decided my health is more important than a bargain.
Do you have trouble saying “No” to unhealthy foods when they’re free or on sale? The strategy I’ve started using is “Do the Math.” Let’s say I order a meal and find out it comes with a free soft drink. I’ll ask myself, “Would I spend $2 to be healthier?” When I change my perspective, saying no to a free drink becomes the better deal!
Next time you stumble upon a bargain for unhealthy food, do the math and ask yourself if you would be willing to spend that amount to lose weight. Let me know how it works for you!
So what’s that crazy thing I did? One year, at midnight on V-Day, I went to Walmart because I thought the Valentines stuff would be half price. While I was in the checkout line, I made friends with a fellow shopper. Well, my candy didn’t ring up as half off, and I was pretty bummed. So my new friend invited me to go sit in his car for half an hour to wait and see if the discounts would start. He turned out to have a really nice Mercedes with a red leather interior. TRUE STORY. I don’t mess around when it comes to great deals.
