Is Your Doctor Your Weight Loss Friend?

Probably not…if he or she is overweight or obese.

nationwide survey of 498 physicians found that doctors who are overweight or obese are:

1. less likely to talk to their patients about the need to lose weight

2. less confident in their ability to provide counseling on diet and exercise

Not surprisingly, the normal weight docs were more likely to say that physicians should serve as role models by maintaining a healthy weight and exercising regularly.

Moral of the story? I’m sure you could come up with one but here’s mine: if your physician is overweight or obese, lose weight and keep it off and you might be a role model for them.
